PDOL: COMPASSION REFLECTION
Reflection: My experiences and ongoing learning as a school counselor in training (SCIT) for the dispositional value of compassion about ethical and professional standards are incredibly valuable. I demonstrate professional friendliness, warmth, and genuine caring by actively listening to my students, parents, and teachers. I meet and greet my students daily and converse with them about their weekend every Monday. I also support my students by attending sports activities they participate in. Reflecting on multivariate approaches, client-centered has become my model because it is centered more on the client and their perspective. I have found that working with students, experiences are often subjective. Students have their own emotions and thoughts that should be considered. Personal interpretation can be different even in the same situation. I use statements like “I think…” or “I feel…” because all children’s opinions are important to me. This is my reflection.
Professional and ethical standards:
ASCA Standard M7.: I promote a comprehensive school counseling program and enhance student academic, career, and social/emotional outcomes by teaching conflict resolution, communication skills, and emotional regulation. Many of my students have a difficult time managing the zones of regulation.
ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors A.4.: I promote academic, career, and social/emotional planning., B. responsibilities to parents/guardians, school, and staff by regularly meeting with students to discuss their academic progress. I also maintain an open line of communication with parents and guardians. Effectively demonstrating my commitment to the ASCA Ethical Standards will ensure the overall success and well-being of my students.
CACREP Standard G.2.7.: I promote characteristics, risk factors, and warning signs of students at risk for mental health and behavioral disorders by better understanding the signs. In addition to understanding the characteristics and risk factors of changed behaviors as well as academic performance, I advocate for school-based mental health services like counseling/therapy and crisis intervention. This is how I promote.
Guiding Questions/Responses: I demonstrate genuine care in my relationship with others by being an active listener, respecting boundaries, and following through. How I provide social, emotional, and academic support by celebrating diversity, showing empathy, and being available to help with things as simple as homework.
Substitution Artifact: Multivariate Approaches (Obj. 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, and 3.6) for Application of Group Counseling Skills in Responsive Services
