PDOL: HIGH EXPECTATIONS
Quote: High expectations foster a growth mindset, where students understand that their abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication, simultaneously building lifelong learning and resilience! -- Valerie Armstrong
My Reflection: I’ve grown as a school counselor in training, which is in direct relation to my experiences and ongoing learning. I show that I believe that all students can learn by setting doable expectations. I use the situation of the student to determine what is expected of them. I inquire by using effective questioning strategies that I have learned throughout these experiences in internships and use the dispositional value of high expectations concerning ethical and professional responses to every student. Again, I set and support expectations positively for every student’s success. I listen attentively and allow open communication to be the mantra. I feel that using the students’ personal experiences to develop them is real world and will only benefit them in the future. I try to always be student-centered because it is about their growth and resiliency. The types of interventions I use are related to social and emotional growth. In the end, I desire to be the kind of school counselor that students will always remember as their biggest cheerleader.
